Book documents Lumbee tribal home remedies

A new book documents the home and herbal remedies of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina.

Arvis Locklear Boughman and Loretta Oxendine, members of the Lumbee Tribe, say "Herbal Remedies of the Lumbee Indians" is a way of preserving history. They spent several years researching how herbs and other items were used to treat common ailments.

For example, burns can be treated with a salve from tobacco leaves and seeds. Spider webs can be used on open cuts.
