The Sioux Falls Argus Leader calls on U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth to appoint a new special master for the Indian trust fund case.
The paper laments the resignation of former special master Alan Balaran. "He said he was being pressured by the government - the Interior Department - because he found energy companies got special treatment at the expense of Native Americans," the paper says.
The paper says work on the case is far from over despite the announcement of two mediators. "Lamberth needs to quickly appoint a replacement with the zeal and determination that [Balaran] showed," the paper says.
