Oneida Nation police to stop off reservation pursuits

The Oneida Nation of New York has told its police force not to pursue suspects off tribal land "unless loss of life or physical injury is imminent," The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

The tribe came under scrutiny when a tribal officer chased a person accused of stealing into a neighboring jurisdiction. The suspect ended up hitting another car before flipping his own vehicle. The person is now in prison.

Madison County threatened to lay charges against the officer for various infractions. But the county and the tribe came to an agreement in principle that hot pursuits will stop.
