Shareholders of an Alaska Native corporation were locked out of their new office building as they demanded to know why their chairman was ousted.
Chugach Alaska Corp. chair Sheri Buretta was removed by a secret ballot. According to The Anchorage Daily News, the ouster was orchestrated by board director Edgar Blatchford.
Some shareholders are questioning Blatchford's action because he also serves as state commissioner and oversees Alaska Native corporations. But a spokesperson for Gov. Frank Murkowski (R) said Blatchford doesn't actually handle any corporation issues.
