Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Thursday rejected a motion to recuse himself from Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force case.
Scalia went on a duck-hunting trip with Dick Cheney, who ran the task force. But he said their friendship had nothing to do with the case, in which Cheney is named as a defendant in his official capacity.
The Sierra Club, one of the plaintiffs seeking information from the task force, filed the motion. Scalia, in a 22-page opinion, ridiculed the organization for not advancing a legal basis for the recusal, and blamed the media for writing about the trip.
The case will be heard April 27. The Bush administration appealed a decision that forced them to turn over documents related to the task force.
