Tribal and other representatives met at the foundation's Daybreak Star Cultural Center yesterday to talk about the idea. The Washington Legislature passed a law on Wednesday to authorize charter schools.

The Bay Mills Indian Community in Michigan operates several charter schools. The Confederated Siletz Tribes of Oregon are planning their own school.
