The Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is boycotting the town of Lake Andes over a police chief that tribal leaders and members say is racist.
Tribal members say they won't do business in the town until Chief Jerry Nelson is fired. They are working with non-Natives to recall the mayor and reinstate the old police chief.
Lake Andes has been the site of police tensions over the years. The county assumed jurisdiction after the U.S. Supreme Court said the Yankton Sioux Reservation was diminished, leading to charges of racism and discrimination by local tribal members.
