Mary Ann Andreas hopes to be the first tribal member elected to the California Assembly. Political observers say she has a good chance at succeeding, according to The Palm Springs Desert Sun.
Andreas is best known as the former chairwoman for the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. She is now challenging incumbent Republican Bonnie Garcia in the 80th Assembly District,
which includes her reservation.
Andreas is promoting jobs in her campaign. "I have a huge record of creating jobs and I know the importance of jobs because I come from a background where there were not jobs for Native people," she told the paper.
