BIA upholds results of recent Rocky Boy's vote

The Bureau of Indian Affairs office for the Rocky Mountain region has approved the recent vote on the Rocky Boy's Reservation in Montana.

Turnout was very low for the election, which was held during bad weather in January. Only 161 voters, out of 3,000 election notices that were sent to tribal members, participated. Those who did approved five changes to the tribe's constitution.

The BIA considers the election to be conducted lawfully. Officials disregarded an opinion from the tribe's chief judge questioning the validity because it was not a formal "challenge."
