Thune gains endorsement from odd source: Russell Means

American Indian Movement activist and actor Russell Means said he is supporting John Thune in the race against Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.).

Means, who has launched several failed political bids, met with Thune recently. He told The Rapid City Journal that he will "open doors to work with the National Republican Party to completely change Indian policy in America."

Thune is a former U.S. Congressman who ran against Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) in 2002. Reservation voters overwhelmingly chose Johnson, securing him a narrow 524-vote victory.

Thune now says he will reach out to Indian Country. He said he has visited several reservations and will make more stops during the campaign.
