The Navajo Nation council voted 49-28 on Tuesday to remove the director of the tribe's Division of Education.
Council delegates said Navajo President Joe Shirley Jr. failed to nominate Karen Dixon Blazer properly. They said the removal vote wasn't a reflection of her abilities.
The removal is believed to be a first for the council.
