The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is proposing to turn an area of downtown Palm Springs into an entertainment district.
The tribe envisions hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, a theme park and other attractions on land it owns in the city. The proposal is set to go before the Palm Springs city council this week.
Since the tribe owns the land, city approval is not needed. But the tribe is working with city officials on the plan.
The tribe owns two casinos, including one in the city.
