The Bureau of Indian Affairs is being asked to step into a leadership dispute within the Tigua Tribe of Texas.
The agency, however, is refusing to get involved at this stage. An official said the tribe should resolve the matter internally.
According to former Gov. Albert Alvidrez, current tribal leaders denied him and and former Lt. Gov. Filbert Candelaria the right to participate in the recent December 31 election. He asked the Tigua tribal court to intervene but the court refused.
Gov. Art Senclair and a new tribal council were elected.
