Tim Giago, the owner and publisher of the Lakota Nation Journal, is running against Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.
Giago, an Oglala Lakota, said he is running because the Indian vote is taken for granted. He will face Daschle in the June 1 primary.
Giago recently sold his paper to the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. He was the founder of Indian Country Today, which he sold to the Oneida Nation of New York.
