The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut held a swearing in ceremony on Monday for council members.
Chairman Michael Thomas, secretary Charlene Jones and councilor Rodney Butler took an oath of office. Thomas said the tribe should work with local communities, according to news reports.
Former Bureau of Indian Affairs head Kevin Gover and former Navajo Nation president Peterson Zah attended the ceremony, The New London Day reported.
