Thursday, January 13, 2005
The Bush administration issued a revision of the U.S. Dietary Guidelines on Wednesday that urged Americans to maintain a healthy body weight.
Studies show that a majority of Americans are overweight or obese. This contributes to other health problems, particularly diabetes, which is epidemic in Indian Country.
The new guidelines, issued by the Health and Human Services Department and the Agriculture Department recommends eating many more fruits and vegetables, more low-fat milk, more whole grains and increasing exercise to as much as an hour and a half a day.
