A herd of bison on Catalina Island in California, is being donated to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.
The 100 animals are descendants of 14 bison taken from the Plains in 1924 to the island for a film on the decline of Indian civilization. With the help of several organizations, the herd is returning to its ancestral home.
The herd is being rounded up and will be dedicated at a ceremony on Wednesday. TheMorongo Band of Mission Indians, both of California, donated $75,000 to pay for shipping to the Rosebud reservation.
