A non-Indian man in Utah has pleaded guilty for failing to stop the abuse of two grandsons by their Indian grandmother.
Michael Angel Deherrera, 48, agreed to testify against Charlissa Sireech, 45. Sireech, a member of the Northern Ute Tribe, is charged with seven felony counts of assault and is awaiting a federal trial.
Authorities say Sireech beat grandsons Jose Rodriguez, 4, and Emilio Rodriguez, 3. Jose was beaten so bad that he ended up in a coma. He is now recovering in California.
Authorities don't know why the children ended up in Sireech's care. The tribe has promised an investigation.
