Yakama Nation drops plans for destination resort

The Yakama Nation of Washington has dropped plans to develop a destination resort, citing a potential negative impact on the environment.

The tribe considered building a ski area, three golf courses, a casino, a restaurant and 2,500 lodging units. The resort would have been located on Mount Adams, which was returned to the tribe in 1972.

The tribe commissioned several studies and found that the impact on the important area would have been too great.
