Violent crime on the Navajo Nation is on the rise, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona.
The tribe referred 253 cases for federal prosecution from July 2003 to July 2004. This was the highest number of cases of all tribes in Arizona. The Navajo Nation is the largest tribe.
The statistics show a steady increase in overall crime, including juvenile crime. Not all the crimes were prosecuted by the federal government.
