A probe into alleged corruption in the office of Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado) shows little signs of activity, The Denver Post reports.
Campbell announced that the Justice Department was investigating allegations of a kickback and improper lobbying. But the paper says some key players haven't been interviewed, no subpoenas have been issued and a grand jury hasn't been called.
The probe centers no a kickback scheme involving Campbell's former chief of staff and another former staffer. The former chief of staff said Campbell signed off on the deal but he denied it.
Campbell's office is also accused of pushing the government to award a $1.7 million contract to a favored technology firm. Campbell denied improper lobbying but his signature appeared on a letter pressuring government officials to award the contract and he inserted language in an appropriations bill for the firm.
Campbell is retiring in January.
