Arizona tribes hope to increase homeownership

Tribes in Arizona are helping their members become new homeowners.

Serena Norris is the first person to use the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community's new mortgage-guarantee program. She is building a home on her trust land under a loan backed by the federal government and the tribe.

The Navajo Nation also has a new loan guarantee program. The goal is to finance at least 500 mortgages a year.

The White Mountain Apache Tribe issued tax-exempt bonds for housing. The tribe raised $25 million to finance 300 new homes on the reservation.
