Federal Recognition
Nipmucs perform ceremony for government officials

The Nipmuc of Massachusetts aren't recognized by the federal government but some officials are hoping to work with the tribe on fish restoration.

Tribal members held a ceremony on the Connecticut River for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The agency is meeting to discuss ways to restore fish in the river.

The Bush administration denied recognition to two Nimpuc tribes. One faction, the Nipmuc Nation, is appealing.
