Coeur d'Alene Tribe wants to know impact of dam

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho is seeking a study of the effects of a dam on the Spokane River.

The tribe wants to know how much usable land was lost when the river was dammed up. Federal law requires power companies to compensate tribes for use of land.

The river feeds into Lake Coeur d'Alene. The U.S. Supreme Court in 2001 affirmed the tribe's ownership of the southern third of the lake.
