The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has reached a water services agreement with the town of North Stonington, Connecticut.

The final draft is still being prepared but represents progress, a town lawyer said. Last year, the town pressured the state to rescind the tribe's water rights in an area where a tribal golf course and resort will be located.

According to The Westerly Sun, the new agreement allows the tribe to own and operate the water infrastructure for Lake of Isles. The tribe would provide 100,000 gallons of water per day to the town for emergency service needs and economic development.

The Lake of Isles property is about 1,200 acres. The tribe, in the past, has sought to have it placed in trust.
