An unidentified California tribe wants to buy the San Jose Medical Center and turn it into a privately-run hospital for Indians in the state.
A group of investors from Michigan is working with the tribe, whom they refused to name. But they said it was a California-based tribe.
The proposed facility would serve Indian and non-Indians, the AR Associates group said.
The center is being closed for financial reasons. Owner HCA Healthcare said it hasn't been approached about any tribal-related deal.
