The Confederated Siletz Tribes in Oregon will make an annual run to the ancestral lands they were removed from in 1856.
The 10th annual 224-mile Run to the Rogue traces the path of removal from the Rogue River Valley. Tribal ancestors were forced to leave due to tensions with non-Indians, who came to the area to mine for gold.
The tribes, a confederation of 27 different bands, were forced onto Oregon's coast. Some were shipped up by boats and barges while others were forced to walk. Even after removal, some continued to return to the Rogue River.
The Run to the Rogue takes place September 16-18.
