The Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is organizing a meeting between tribal and state leaders on September 25.
Dubbed the "Sioux Summit" by former newspaper publisher Tim Giago, leaders of all nine tribes will discuss concerns with Sen. Tom Daschle (D). Other state elected leaders, including Sen. Tim Johnson (D), Rep. Stephanie Herseth (D) and Gov. Mike Rounds (R), are being invited.
The meeting grew out of a discussion Giago had with Daschle. Giago entered the Senate race against Daschle as an independent but withdrew and said Daschle promised to address certain issues, including treaty rights.
The summit will take place at the Crazy Horse Memorial.
