The Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians has agreed to a land swap with the Tuolumne Park and Recreation District in California.

The tribe will acquire a 6.2-mile former railroad easement from the district. In exchange, the tribe will give the district a former administrative office and storage yard.

The railroad easement is the subject of some controversy due a threat of a lawsuit by Friends of Sierra Railroad. The group says the property must be used for railroad purposes.

As part of the land swap, the tribe agreed to handle any litigation affecting the easement. The park district's director belongs to the group and voted against the deal.
