A bid to fire Navajo Nation Attorney General Louis Denetsosie was defeated on Friday.
Denetsosie was accused of ignoring directives from the Navajo Nation council. Wallace Charley, a council delegate, cited the handling of a nepotism controversy involving the wives of the president and vice-president and a Bureau of Indian Affairs school that was the subject of a federal takeover.
Denetsosie was allowed time to defend himself and said his job is to serve the entire Navajo Nation, not just the council. The council then voted to end debate on the matter. The bill to fire Denetsosie then failed to pass.
