State promises to consult tribes on major site

Officials in Utah say they will consult tribes in advance of any decisions affecting a major archaeological site but tribal leaders are frustrated with the process.

The state's Native American Remains Review Committee met yesterday to discuss the subject. Tribal leaders said they are tired of waiting for remains and artifacts to be repatriated.

The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation says it will work with tribes on the Range Creek site. Some remains have been uncovered but apparently have not been excavated. The state allowed the media to visit the site before telling the tribes.
