Obituary: Frank Sanache, last Meskwaki Code Talker

Frank Sanache, the last living Meskwaki Code Talker, died Saturday. He was 86.

Sanache was one of eight Meskwakis who were trained to use the code during World War II. He served in the Pacific and in North Africa, where he spent 28 months as a prisoner of war.

Sanache was recently recognized by the state of Iowa for his service. Sens. Charles Grassley (R) and Tom Harkin (D) are working to have the Meskwaki and other Code Talkers recognized with Congressional medals.

Sanache is on the right in the picture.
