Alaska Native village bans alcohol after death

The alcohol-related death of a 21-year-old prompted the Alaska Native village of Beaver to ban alcohol.

Arvin Petruska died after a night of drinking last December. Residents of the tiny village, population 80, were deeply affected. This past June, they voted to go dry.

Paul Williams Sr., 67, said alcohol wasn't a problem when residents lived a subsistence lifestyle. He said drinking has become worse in recent years.
