The federal government has delayed the public auction of land in New York due to local concern that the Cayuga Nation might buy it.
The 128-acre parcel surrounds the tribe's Class II casino. Local officials are worried the facility might expand if the tribe buys the land. They are also concerned about the property being taken off the tax rolls.
The tribe tried to buy the land last year. Cayuga Nation representative Timothy Twoguns said he doesn't know if the tribe is still interested.
