The Food and Drug Administration has concluded twice that use of antidpressants leads to increased risk of suicide among children, The Washington Post reports.
The analyses are based on clinical trials conducted by drug manufacturers. One FDA researher found that children who received antidepressants had 1.78 times the risk of making a suicide attempt or "making preparatory actions towards imminent suicidal behavior." A second researcher found that children using antidepressants had 1.9 times the risk of "serious suicide-related events."
The FDA has refused to release the internal analyses. One was made several months ago.
