The Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is finishing work on the reservation's first juvenile detention center.

The tribe broke ground on the $8.5 million, 51,646-square-foot facility in 2002. It will have space to serve 76 juvenile offenders, both male and female. It includes an unsecured area for youths who will report for classes and counseling in the day before heading home for the evening.

The center will take tribal youth from the Rosebud, Cheyenne River and Pine Ridge reservations.
