Navajo Nation girl tested for West Nile virus

A young Navajo Nation girl has the West Nile virus, according to a preliminary test.

The 28-month-old girl is from Shiprock, New Mexico. Navajo President Joe Shirley Jr. said the tribe was waiting on final results of the test.

The virus, carried by infected mosquitoes, is potentially deadly to humans, horses and birds. People are urged to use bug repellent and reduce mosquito breeding grounds by removing standing water.
