The stepfather of a five-year-old Native girl who has been missing since July 5 appeared in court on Monday to face assault charges.
According to news reports, the alleged assault occurred only four hours after Tamra Keepness was last seen at her family's home in Regina, Saskatchewan. The incident allegedly took place in the early morning hours of July 6 at the home.
Police called off the search for Tamra and are focusing on her family. They say there was some sort of gathering at the home on the night she was last seen.
Police are asking for information on two vehicles stolen on July 6, the day Tamra was reported missing. One is an orange and white 1973 Volkswagen van with Saskatchewan plates; the other is a red and silver 1989 GMC 1500 truck.
