The Seton Lake First Nation of British Columbia temporarily blocked a railway on Thursday in protest of the $1 billion deal that tribal leaders say undermines their rights.

The First Nation was successful in stopping a freight train before lifting the blockade. The rail runs through traditional tribal territory.

The band plans to file a lawsuit against the B.C. government to protest the sale of B.C. Rail to Canadian National. Several First Nations withdrew their support for the deal, saying their rights were not considered.

The deal is supposed to include $15 million in payments to 25 First Nations.
