Three New England tribes who have been denied federal recognition are considering their next moves.
The Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe of Connecticut hasn't filed a challenge to the Bureau of Indian Affairs yet. A source told The Norwich Bulletin that the tribe was considering other options before filing the appeal.
The Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts announced it would appeal the BIA's negative decision. Tribal members last week said they were "humiliated" by the denial of federal status.
A rival group of Nipmucs known as the Chaubunagungamaug Band is still studying the BIA's ruling, the tribe's chairman told the paper.
