The Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana is seeking federal recognition through an act of Congress.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs gave preliminary approval to the tribe back in 2001. The tribe has requested, and received, several extensions on the public comment period in order to patch up holes in the historical record.
In the meantime, the tribe is asking Hill County to support recognition through Congress. Cascade County passed a resolution in favor of legislation.
