The University of Oregon has broken ground on the Many Nations Longhouse, the campus home for Native students.

The $1.2 million project has been 10 years in the making, The Oregon Daily Emerald reported. Almost all of the funds were raised through private donations.

Native students and student organizations will use the new longhouse for events, ceremonies. studying or just for hanging out. Students are currently meeting in a modular building while construction is underway. The longhouse is expected to open by November.
