The Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking an historical accounting of its trust assets.
The tribe is asking for an accounting of money and land. The suit says the federal government has failed to keep adequate records of the trust.
The tribe is one of nearly two dozen nationwide that have filed trust accounting lawsuit. Several are being handled by U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, who is presiding over the Cobell v. Norton suit involving individual trust assets.
