Mashantucket Tribe accused of hindering vote effort

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is being accused of hindering the fund-raising efforts of a group seeking to increase voter turnout among South Dakota Indians.

Pequot representatives allegedly told a gaming manufacturer not to contribute to the Four Directions Committee of South Dakota. The group, which has ties to Democratic interests, helped increase turnout in the South Dakota June 1 primary by two- to three-fold.

John Guevremont, chief operating officer for the Mashantuckets, denied the allegations. He said the tribe works with both political parties.
