"After a long, bitter election ad campaign -- in which elements of both sides used questionable practices -- candidates in the race for Sault Tribal Chairman pledged to clean up the battle.
However, that part of the campaign already did much damage.
The image of the tribe was harmed as local residents, as well as governmental agents from downstate and across the nation, observed those election antics.
In the midst of that campaign, the management of The Evening News deleted sections of ads with unsubstantiated content from all candidates. But, the paper wound up in the crossfire anyway."
