Appeals court won't intervene in recognition case

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday said it won't intervene in the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation's recognition case.

The court deferred to the Department of Interior's Board of Indian Appeals, which is currently handling the case. Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal had tried to jump over the administrative review, which he filed.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs gave final recognition to the tribe in June 2002. The state is trying to tie up the case for as long as possible.
