A federal judge in California has affirmed the federal status of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians.
U.S. District Judge Garland Burrell Jr. on Friday rejected a challenge the tribe's federal recognition. He said El Dorado County brought its claim six years too late.
The county is fighting the tribe's plans to build a casino on the rancheria. A separate suit the county filed in state court challenges a highway interchange needed to access the rancheria.
