The Tigua Tribe of Texas has asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to place 60,000 acres in trust.
The tribe bought an old ranch in 1998 and has been waiting for an answer ever since, the tribe's attorney said. But due to objections from local judges, including one who wrote a highly critical editorial in The Alpine Avalanche, the request has "been put on hold indefinitely," a local BIA
employee told the paper.
The tribe has no major plans for the land, the attorney said.
