Fallout continues over judge who abused Native girls

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police now says it didn't follow up on allegations that a judge abused Native girls because they were based on "third and fourth-hand" rumors.

Police say they heard of allegations involving ex-judge David Ramsay as early as 1999. Ramsay was finally indicted last March and pleaded guilty last month.

Ramsay was sentenced to seven years for abusing girls who had appeared before him in court. The British Columbia attorney general has launched an investigation into the cases involving these four girls.

First Nations groups say not enough attention is being paid to child sexual abuse and prostitution. Ramsay admitted he cruised for Native girls on the streets.
