A study published in today's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association reports a rise in high blood pressure among children.
Experts say the rise is the result of the increasing number of children who are overweight or obese. A government researcher called the study a "wake-up call."
The study was based on data collected on children during the past 10 years. It found a rise in the average systolic blood pressure and a rise in the average diastolic pressure. The rise increases the risk for high blood pressure.
